Karen Murphy joined the City of Midland in 2003 as the assistant director for administration in the Department of Public Services (DPS). She was promoted to director of public services in June 2007. In her role, Karen oversees all DPS activities, including Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Dial-A-Ride Transportation, and the Landfill.
Before coming to the City of Midland, Karen worked for the City of Mt. Pleasant as a public works analyst. She is a graduate of H.H. Dow High School and holds a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from Saginaw Valley State University and a master’s degree in public administration from Central Michigan University.
Karen is a past recipient of the 1st State Bank RUBY (Recognizing the Upward, Bright & Young) Award, an honor designated for professionals in the Great Lakes Bay Region under the age of 40 who have had a significant and positive impact on their communities.
