1. What does the mark on my outlawn tree mean?

If you have a green dot this means that your tree is currently being treated for Emerald Ash Borer. If your tree has a green x this means your tree is infected with Emerald Ash Borer and will be removed. If your tree has an orange x or circle with a line through it, the tree will be removed by the City of Midland crews. If your tree has a blue dot this means your tree is going to be pruned by Consumer's Energy. If your tree has a blue x this means your tree will be removed by Consumer's Energy.

2. How do I request a tree to be planted in my outlawn?

If you would like to have a tree planted in your outlawn please contact Parks and Recreation at 837-6930 or by email at recreation@midland-mi.org. You cannot chose the variety of tree that is placed in your outlawn.

3. How do I notify Consumer's Energy about a tree issue?

Please contact Consumer’s Energy at 1-800-477-5050.

4. Can I request what variety of tree is planted in my outlawn?

No. Our goal is to make sure the right tree is planted in the right environment. You can give a preference on what species of tree is planted but the City cannot guarantee what species will be ultimately be available.

5. Can I plant my own tree?

Yes; however you must receive permission from the Parks and Recreation Department to do so. We want to make sure the right species is planted in the appropriate area.

6. Where do I get free mulch and woodchips?

Free wood chips are available on a first-come first-serve basis at the Blake Park parking lot, located at 3735 E. Ashman St, across the street to the entrance of Stratford Woods Park. Anyone interested can help themselves whenever they like (the stock is frequently replaced). These chips are raw wood chips from our forestry operation and therefore we cannot guarantee what is in them (bugs, disease, etc.). For questions contact Parks and Recreation.
