[ARCHIVED] Residents Can Rake Now in Preparation for Fall Leaf Collection

October 21, 2016 – The autumn weather in Midland has led to a late leaf fall this year, which has delayed the start of the 2016 curbside leaf collection program. Beginning October 24, City crews will test leaf collection equipment in preparation for the City’s first significant leaf fall.

At this time, residents are welcome to rake leaves into the street. Citizens should leave a one-foot gutter space between the leaf pile and the curb to allow a path for water to properly drain from the street and avoid placing brush, sticks, branches, or refuse into curbside leaf piles, as this creates a safety hazard for crews and equipment. Residents may also place fall yard waste in yard bags or bins at the curb on their regular trash collection day. Annual bin stickers or 40-cent bag stickers are not required through the end of the 2016 yard waste collection season.

Residents on the following major streets should rake leaves onto the outlawn between the sidewalk and curb in front of their homes: Ashman Street from the Circle to Main, Bay City Road, Buttles Street, Eastman Avenue, George and Cronkright Streets between Indian and Ellsworth, Indian Street, Isabella Street, Lyon Road, Main Street, Patrick Road from Indian to Waldo, Rodd Street, and Saginaw Road.

Once Midland has experienced a significant leaf fall, Public Services will announce the start date for the fall curbside leaf collection program. Once the program begins, residents will be able to track the progress of the leaf collection crews by calling the Leaf Collection Hotline at 989-837-3405, watching the MGTV-188 message board or AT&T U-verse Channel 99, or visiting the City’s leaf update website at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/leafupdate.

For questions or more information, contact the Department of Public Services at 989-837-6900.
