[ARCHIVED] Midland Fire Marshal Named Michigan’s Top Fire Inspector for 2015

October 16, 2015 - The Midland Fire Department is pleased to announce that Fire Marshal Josh Mosher has been named 2015 Michigan Fire Inspector of the Year by the Michigan Fire Inspectors Society.

Mosher’s nomination noted that during his tenure, he has been a guiding force in implementing Midland Fire’s new fire prevention division Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Acting Fire Inspector program. Selected SME’s have been trained in fire prevention program delivery, taking programs to schools and senior citizens. Initial presentations to a sampling of public schools in the 2014-2015 academic year were so successful that Midland Fire has been invited into all Midland schools annually.

The fire marshal also administers the acting fire inspector program, reducing the inspection backlog while effectively grooming personnel for promotion. In addition, he leads the FireHouse software committee and assisted with training the department in implementing the “I AM Responding” call back system and our new county 800 MHz radio system.

Mosher has been involved in the “Pink Shirts” campaign, raising money for cancer research, as well as the “safe Communities” initiative in the city.

Outside of the department, Mosher has been working with the MAFC Fire and Life Safety Section, writing position papers on sky lanterns and arc fault circuit interrupters. He serves as a director for the Northern Michigan Fire Chiefs, and has been active in the Great Lakes Bay Area Chiefs.

"To be selected for this recognition is a high honor coming from Josh's peers in the fire service” said Midland Fire Chief Chris Coughlin. “He has done an outstanding job for Midland, the Fire Inspectors Society, and the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs. We are proud to have him on our team."

Mosher is a three-year member of Midland Fire, and has 18 years of experience in fire suppression and prevention.
