(L-R): City Engineer Matt Lemon, Construction/Traffic Services Supervisor Lane Self, and City Manager Brad Kaye
October 3, 2023 – The City of Midland is excited to announce that it has recognized Construction and Traffic Services Supervisor Lane Self as its latest recipient of a City Strive Award. The award was presented during a department meeting earlier this month.
Self received the Stewardship Award, which recognizes an individual for the responsible and efficient use of tax dollars and/or as an effective manager and protector of our natural resources in a way that represents the best interests of the community and sustainability for the future.
He was nominated by City Engineer Matt Lemon for several recent cost-saving improvements he’s introduced to the City’s Engineering Department, including identifying new opportunities for pavement marking products and infrastructure data collection.
“Lane has been fantastic from the very beginning, always working to identify new and improved ways of doing things. Recently, he has worked to identify some alternative paint products that a supplier wants to test, which will allow us to both move our painting program forward when other municipalities are coming up short on supply and save a significant amount of the planned cost. In addition, Lane has recently identified and presented a way to bring our upcoming TAMC culvert inventory data collection in-house by bringing on a specific individual in one of our temporary positions and reorganizing our temp work. Doing this portion of the project internally will save the City multiple tens of thousands of dollars.”
Lane Self has worked for the City since 2021.
“It is one of our goals as an organization to be effective stewards of resources while delivering the high-quality services Midlanders enjoy,” said City Manager Brad Kaye. “Lane’s innovative approach to projects under his jurisdiction provide both cost savings and operational efficiencies that help us achieve this goal. We’re very grateful to have him on the team.”
