[ARCHIVED] Currie Parkway Bridge Reopened to Eastbound Traffic

July 28, 2023 – The City of Midland has announced that the historic Currie Parkway Bridge has been repaired and reopened to eastbound traffic following damage sustained due to overweight vehicle usage in October 2021.

In an attempt to prevent future use by overweight vehicles, a guardrail lane has been constructed at the approach of the bridge. While this lane is the width of a normal traffic lane, it incorporates a slight angle that prevents long commercial vehicles or vehicles pulling trailers from accessing the bridge. Signage containing weight restrictions and restrictions on commercial vehicles and trailers are also posted. This new design is intended to prevent further damage to the bridge and avoid further bridge closures.

Only non-commercial, standard weight vehicles should attempt to cross the Currie Parkway Bridge. Motorists are encouraged to use caution when navigating the new lane for their first few trips.

The Currie Parkway Bridge is open to eastbound vehicle traffic only. Motorists traveling from the direction of the Currie Municipal Golf Course will be permitted to cross the bridge and turn right or left onto Main Street. Right and left turns onto Currie Parkway from Main Street are prohibited. One-way traffic will be strictly enforced by the Midland Police Department. Motorists who attempt to turn right or left onto the Currie Parkway Bridge from Main Street will be ticketed.
