Mill & Overlay Project Coming to City Streets

July 21, 2023 – Beginning Monday, July 24, several local streets in the City of Midland will see surface improvements as part of a mill and overlay project. 

This application involves removing and replacing the top layers of a street’s asphalt to reduce surface roughness and address minor deformations, cracking, and irregularities in the pavement surface. This process can extend the lifespan of a street’s surface by up to 10 – 15 years. 

Work will be conducted in three phases. On each street, one side of the street will be completed at a time to minimize disruption to residents and shorten the overall project duration. The following streets will receive mill and overlay treatment:

Phase 1:

  • Abbott Road from E. Ashman to Eastlawn (southbound lane)
  • Hollyberry Drive
  • Ridgeview Court 

Phase 2:

  • Abbott Road from E. Ashman to Eastlawn (northbound lane)
  • Foxwood Drive
  • Foxwood Court
  • Courtside Court
  • Woodview Pass from Courtside to the end of the street
  • Woodview Court
  • Evergreen Court 

Phase 3:

  • E. Chapel Lane from Jefferson to Chapel Lane Circle
  • Stillwater Lane
  • Scenic Drive from Scenic Circle to Wildflower Circle
  • Shirewood Lane
  • Peachtree Circle
  • Country Walk Circle
  • Whiffletree Lane
  • Shirewood Circle
  • Wildflower Circle 

While work is underway, all residential streets will be closed to through traffic. Abbott Road will have a signed detour for the closed direction of through traffic using Eastlawn Avenue, Waldo Avenue, and E. Ashman Street throughout the duration of construction. Work on all phases is anticipated to be completed by October 2023.
