[ARCHIVED] Main Stret to Close from Sugnet to Saginaw for Reconstruction

Road closed sign

June 1, 2023 – Main Street will be closed to through traffic from Sugnet Road to Saginaw Road on Friday, June 2 for road milling work related to the Concept 5 Sewer Improvement Plan.

Main Street will temporarily reopen to through traffic up to H.H. Dow High School on Saturday, June 3 to allow access for MHSAA District 2 Baseball playoffs. It will then close to through traffic from Sugnet to Saginaw until further notice on Monday, June 5. Traffic accessing locations within the road closure will be able to travel southbound on Main Street after June 5.

The intersection of Main and Sugnet is open for local (non-through) traffic only at this time.

As Sugnet Road is also closed from Main Street to Valley Drive, motorists should utilize Orchard Drive from Main Street or Saginaw Road to detour around the closure if not accessing a location within the construction zone.

When completed, the sewer upsizing project in this area will increase the size of 8,000+ linear feet of sanitary sewer pipe along Perrine Road, Saginaw Road, Main Street, and W. Sugnet Road.

As this is an extensive project spanning multiple construction seasons, work will be completed in phases as outlined below:

  • Phase 1 (In progress):        Sugnet Road from W. Main Steet to Valley Drive. Sugnet Road is closed to through traffic and local traffic will be maintained for the duration of construction in this phase.
  • Phase 2 (In progress): W. Main Street from Sugnet Road to Saginaw Road. Main Street will be closed to through traffic and local traffic will be maintained for the duration of construction in this phase.
  • Phase 3: Saginaw Road from W. Main Steet to Perrine Road. Westbound Saginaw Road will be closed and traffic detoured for the duration of construction in this phase. Eastbound traffic will be maintained for the majority of construction in this phase. During sanitary sewer placement in the eastbound lanes, a complete road closure will be in effect for a short duration.
  • Phase 4: Perrine Road from Saginaw Road to Moorland Drive. Perrine Road will be closed to through traffic and local traffic will be maintained for the duration of construction in this phase.

Work on subsequent phases will not begin until substantial completion of the previous phase has occurred. The entire upsizing project is estimated to be completed in June 2024.

Residents are reminded that due to the nature of construction activities, the information provided may change at any time. Should an issue arise that would change this schedule, the City will provide updates online at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/concept5 and via its Facebook and Twitter channels at @CityofMidlandMI.
