May 5, 2023 – On Monday, May 8, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will temporarily close eastbound Wackerly Street to through traffic at Eastman Avenue as work continues on its intersection expansion project in this area.

During the closure, eastbound traffic on Wackerly will be detoured using Eastman, Commerce Drive, and Jefferson Avenue. If inclement weather prevents work from being performed, this detour will be reschedule for Tuesday, May 9. Wackerly will reopen to through traffic the following day.
When completed, this project will add dedicated through and right turn lanes on northbound Eastman and a dedicated right turn lane on westbound Wackerly. The work will also include signalization modernization at the intersection of Eastman and Wackerly and sidewalk improvements in line with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
Now through approximately May 30, right turns will be restricted onto eastbound Wackerly from northbound Eastman. Motorists wishing to access eastbound Wackerly will be detoured north on Eastman to Commerce Drive, east to Jefferson Avenue, and south to Wackerly.
Significant traffic delays are anticipated while construction is underway. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes around the construction area if possible.
This project is expected to be completed by the end of June 2023.
Residents are reminded that this information may change due to the nature of construction activities. While this work is not a City of Midland project, the City will make all reasonable efforts to provide updates on this project to residents in a timely manner as they are received.
