MDOT Begins Eastman/Wackerly Improvements April 10

Orange traffic cones on a blue sky

April 10, 2023 – Beginning today, motorists will experience lane restrictions and construction activities from Harcrest Drive to US-10 on Eastman Avenue and from Woodpark Drive to Eastman on Wackerly Street as the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) kicks off a project to improve operations at the intersection of US-10 BR (Eastman) and Wackerly Street.

When completed, this project will add dedicated through and right turn lanes on northbound Eastman and a dedicated right turn lane on westbound Wackerly. The work will also include signalization modernization at the intersection of Eastman and Wackerly and sidewalk improvements in line with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

Now through approximately May 30, right turns will be restricted onto eastbound Wackerly from northbound Eastman. Motorists wishing to access eastbound Wackerly will be detoured north on Eastman to Commerce Drive, east to Jefferson Avenue, and south to Wackerly.

Significant traffic delays are anticipated while construction is underway. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes around the construction area if possible.

Work is expected to be completed by the end of June 2023.

Residents are reminded that this information may change due to the nature of construction activities. While this work is not a City of Midland project, the City will make all reasonable efforts to provide updates on this project to residents in a timely manner as they are received.

For more information on this project, please contact MDOT at 989-671-1555.
