March 17, 2023 – The City of Midland is pleased to announce that Assistant Director of Public Services Marcie Post has received the 2023 Michigan Recreation & Park Association (mParks) Recreation Leader Award. She received the honor earlier this month during the 2023 mParks Conference and Trade Show in Lansing.

A 20-year veteran of the parks and recreation industry, Post joined the City of Midland in 2008 as recreation manager before being promoted to her current role in March 2021. Her extensive catalogue of work at the City includes oversight of numerous recreational programs; a 2800-acre parks system; popular community amenities such as Plymouth Pool and Midland City Forest; the annual Appreciation of Beautification Awards; and the Middle of the Mitt Miracle Field, a universally-accessible baseball diamond for athletes with a physical or cognitive disability.

In addition to her role as an mParks board member, Post also serves in leadership roles on boards for the Midland Soccer Club, the Arnold Center, the Midland Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Midland Amateur Sports Capital Committee. She holds a bachelor’s degree in community leisure services administration/commercial recreation and facilities management and a master’s degree in parks and recreation administration, both from Central Michigan University. She is a Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) and Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) through the National Recreation and Park Association and a Certified Public Manager (CPM) through the National Certified Public Manager Consortium.

“Marcie’s intense passion for recreation and her creative, inclusive approach to public service are evident in the many programs and amenities our residents enjoy every day,” said City Manager Brad Kaye. “She is a dedicated leader and a perfect example of what this award symbolizes and we are very proud of her.”

The Recreation Leadership Award is presented to a member for outstanding contributions and leadership in the area of recreation programming. Nominees must be a member of mParks in good standing for a minimum of 10 years. For more information, please visit www.mparks.org
