March 17, 2023 – With spring right around the corner, the City of Midland is ramping up to begin its annual yard waste collection on Monday, April 3.

Yard waste is collected curbside on your regular weekly refuse collection day.  Yard waste must be placed in Kraft paper compost bags or the City’s blue 95-gallon yard waste bins before being set at the curb.  Acceptable materials include grass clippings, leaves, garden waste, and small twigs and branches.

Spring Free Yard Waste collection begins each year on the first Monday in April.  Stickers are not required on yard waste bags and bins until the first Monday in May. In 2023, Spring Free Yard Waste collection will begin on Monday, April 3 and run through Friday, April 28. Yard waste stickers will be required for bags and bins beginning Monday, May 1.

The cost for yard waste bag stickers and annual bin stickers are as follows:

  • Yard waste bag stickers – $0.40 per bag
  • Yard waste bin annual sticker – $40.00
  • Additional yard waste bin annual sticker – $17.00 for each additional bin at the same address
  • Blue City yard waste bin - $80.00

The City emailed and mailed yard waste bin renewal notices in early March to residents who have previously purchased City yard waste bin stickers. Residents can purchase yard waste bins, annual yard waste bin stickers, and bag stickers via the following methods:

  • Online at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/publicservices (Visa or MasterCard only)
  • In person with cash, check, MasterCard or Visa at the following locations:
    1. City Hall:  333 W. Ellsworth Street
    2. Municipal Service Center:   4811 N. Saginaw Road

Both locations are open to the public Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

  • By mail using the form mailed to prior yard waste customers with a check payable to the City of Midland, PO Box 1647, Midland, MI 48641-1647.

Additional forms are available online at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/yardwaste.

Yard waste bag stickers are also available for purchase at local retailers including Ace Hardware, Family Fare, Gilroy's Hardware, Kroger, and Meijer.
