An upgraded version of the City of Midland’s comprehensive online mapping and information application is now live.
The City’s Geographic Information System (GIS) Interactive Map, first launched in 2009, has been enhanced to make it a more effective tool for gathering information about Midland. The program provides citizens with access to data and information that is shown in a graphical format. Layers of data are placed on top of aerial photos of the entire city. With just a few clicks, you can access information such as property data, floodplain areas, the location of schools and parks, and more.
The revised program is built using the latest technology that meets Microsoft’s highest standards for stability and reliability, security, and platform compatibility. It includes features that have been added and/or improved:
• Search capabilities and performance
• Reporting and printing capabilities
• Measuring tools
• Markup tools
• Map performance
• Mobile phone and tablet-ready
• Third party map integration
With GIS, information gathering takes less time and is easier to do. Because information is available in a digital form that can be mapped and analyzed quickly, citizens and City staff are able to complete in minutes what may have taken hours to do before the online system was first created.
