DART Receives Federal Grant for Zero-Emission Vans

August 29, 2022 – The City of Midland is excited to announce that it has been awarded a grant totaling $167,257 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for the purchase of new, low or no emission vehicles.

The funds were secured through the FTA’s Low or No Emission (Low-No) Grant Program, which makes funding available under the $1.6 billion Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help transit agencies buy or lease U.S.-built low- or no-emission vehicles, related equipment, or facilities.

The City of Midland will utilize the funds to purchase two new zero-emission electric transit vans for its Dial-A-Ride fleet, which will replace two current buses that have reached the end of their service lives.

“Dial-A-Ride provides a critical transportation service to members of the Midland community,” said Director of Public Services Karen Murphy. “Through the receipt of this grant, we’re looking forward to continuing that legacy while making strides to reduce our environmental impact.”

Dial-A-Ride Transportation (DART) is the City of Midland’s on-demand, curb-to-curb public transportation system providing. In 2021, DART provided over 100,000 rides in the City limits. For more information on Dial-A-Ride, visit www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/dart.
