May 13, 2022 – Teens interested in pursuing sports broadcasting as a career or hobby can get an immersive experience during the MCTV Network’s summer sports broadcasting camp July 18 – 21 from 1 – 5 p.m.

The camp, open to Midland residents ages 12 – 17, will provide students to all aspects of a live sports broadcast on community media: technical aspects of video production, live sports coverage, and on-air talent; production equipment used to create televised sporting events; and the skills needed to produce a live broadcast. The MCTV Network has also partnered with Dow Diamond and ESPN 100.9-FM to provide tours and insight into the world of professional sports commentary, sports radio operations, and game-day video operations at ESPN 100.9-FM studio and Dow Diamond.

At the end of the camp, campers will assist MCTV staff and volunteers in creating a live broadcast of the Great Lakes Loons vs. West Michigan Whitecaps game on Friday, July 22 at Dow Diamond.

Cost of the camp is $50, which covers the cost of instruction, daily snacks, a souvenir t-shirt, and membership to the MCTV Network for one year. Membership allows campers to use all the equipment, facilities, and services available through MCTV.

Pre-registration is required in person at MCTV‘s offices in the lower level of the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Payment is required at time of registration via cash or check payable to MCTV Network. Register early as spaces are limited. Please note that the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library will be closed to patrons May 20 – June 4 for final post-flood reconstruction.
