[ARCHIVED] Sign up to Chalk the Walk with Downtown and Creative 360

April 29, 2022 – Downtown Midland and Creative 360 are actively looking for local artists of all ages and skill levels to decorate Main Street’s sidewalks with colorful, temporary works of art during its first free Chalk the Walk event on Saturday, May 21.

During the event, artists will be assigned a section of aggregate concrete sidewalk, either 69 square feet or 92 square feet, to use as a canvas for their chalk artwork. Prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories with all entries evaluated on overall quality and design and depiction of the theme “Art Transforms”. Prizes will be awarded in two age groups: 0 – 17 and 18+.

Not a competitive type of artist? No worries! The event will also feature a free-for-all section for everyone to enjoy and draw as they please.

The schedule for the event is as follows:

  • 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Artist check-in for competition
  • 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Free-for-all draw on specified sidewalks
  • 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.: Competitive timeframe
  • 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.: Competitive judging
  • 4:30 p.m.: Awards and prizes

Registration for the sidewalk chalk art competition will remain open until May 13. Registration can be found on Creative 360’s website under the event date (Saturday, May 21, 2022) at becreative360.org/events/

In the chance of inclement weather, the rainout date for this event is Sunday, May 22.
