March 21, 2022 – Midland Parks and Recreation is now accepting baseball player registrations, coaching applications, and volunteer registrations for the 2022 spring season of the Middle of the Mitt Miracle League, its baseball league for athletes of all ages with a cognitive or physical disability.

Athlete registration is open now through Friday, April 15 at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/miraclefield. League play will begin after the Grand Opening Celebration of the Field on Saturday, May 14. Games are played as a 6-week season on Saturdays. There will be two leagues: Youth (ages 4-17) and Adult (Ages 18+). Leagues are open to anyone and there is no residency requirement to participate. The cost to play in the Miracle League is $50 per player with a limited number of scholarships available.

In addition to players, a variety of volunteer positions are available on a weekly basis for coaches, buddies, and game-day volunteers. For more information on how you can get involved, visit www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/miraclefield. Coaches must be at least 18 years old and must submit to a background check. Volunteers and buddies must be at least 12 years old.

A Miracle Field is a universally-accessible soft surface baseball diamond that offers a safe and welcoming place to play ball without barriers for athletes with a cognitive or physical disability. The rubberized surface of the 115’ diamond accommodates wheelchairs and assistive devices while helping to prevent injuries. Each athlete is offered a community buddy whom assists their athlete on the field as they bat, run the bases, and field the ball, allowing parents and caretakers to cheer from the bleachers and enjoy the game. In a Miracle League game, everyone bats, scores, and wins! The Midland Miracle Field is located at 225 E. Nelson Street in Midland.

For additional information or assistance, call the Parks and Recreation office at 989-837-6930, available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., or email recreation@midland-mi.org. For more information on the Middle of the Mitt Miracle League, please visit www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/miraclefield.
