[ARCHIVED] New Survey Asks Residents to Name Their Neighborhoods

August 24, 2021 – What’s in a name? When it comes to sense of place and livability initiatives, a lot! In a new online survey on E-CityHall, Midland residents are invited to create or share their neighborhood’s identity as part of the City Modern Master Plan process.

City Planning staff have created a map that divides the City into 35 neighborhood areas, each with a unique name and boundary. Residents can view the map online at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/neighborhoodnames and provide feedback on their neighborhood’s proposed name, its general boundary lines, and more. Respondents can share if their neighborhood already has a named typically used by its residents and where the general boundaries for their neighborhood should be drawn.

Responses should be submitted by Sunday, September 12 at midnight.

Results will be shared with the Midland Planning Commission, City staff, and the general public and will be used during the City Modern master planning process to better understand residents’ sense of identity within their neighborhoods and aid in future development of communications, programming, and other opportunities to improve or maintain residents’ quality of life.

Residents who do not have internet access or cannot complete the survey online may view the draft neighbor map at City Hall, 333 W. Ellsworth Street, and can submit feedback and suggestions to Director of Planning & Community Development Grant Murschel at 989-837-3374 or gmurschel@midland-mi.org
