[ARCHIVED] Residents Advised of Phone Scam for COVID-19 Vaccination

A white woman holds a cell phone in her hand while she types on a laptop computer

January 25, 2021 – The Midland Police Department (MPD) has learned that several elderly residents have received a call from an individual claiming to represent the Midland County Department of Public Health and asking the recipient to provide personal information such as a Social Security number and birth date to schedule a COVID-19 vaccination appointment.  MPD advises residents that these are scam calls and that the individual(s) conducting these calls are not affiliated with the Health Department in any way.

The Midland County Department of Public Health has begun calling residents age 65+ and others in group Priority 1B who have expressed an interest in receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, but it will not ask for any personal identification information. Callers from the Health Department will only discuss an appointment date and time during calls.

Residents who receive a scam call should hang up and should not provide the caller with any personal identification information. It is not necessary to report receiving one of these calls; however, residents may do so if they wish by contacting the Midland Police Department at 989-631-0907 during regular business hours, Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Please do not contact 911 or the Midland County Department of Public Health to report a scam call.

For more information on the Midland County Department of Public Health’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts or to submit interest in receiving the vaccine, visit www.co.midland.mi.us/HealthDepartment/COVIDVaccineInformation.aspx
