October 23, 2020 – The City of Midland has announced that its annual curbside leaf collection program will begin for the 2020 season on Monday, November 2 in Area B. City crews will test leaf collection equipment in random areas of the city on October 28 – 30. Collection will officially begin in Area B, then proceed to Areas C, D, and A.
Residents in Area B should prepare their leaves for collection at this time; however, residents in all areas can start raking leaves to the street now.
To prepare leaves for collection:
- Leave one foot of gutter space between the leaf pile and the curb to allow a path for water to properly drain from the street;
- Avoid placing brush, sticks, branches, or refuse into curbside leaf piles, as this creates a safety hazard for crews and equipment
- Place fall yard waste (sticks, pumpkins, etc.) in yard bags or bins at the curb on refuse collection day. Annual bin stickers or 40-cent bag stickers are not required through the end of the 2020 collection season.
Residents on the following major streets should rake leaves onto the outlawn between the sidewalk and curb in front of their homes: Ashman Street from the Circle to Main, Bay City Road, Buttles Street, Eastman Avenue, George and Cronkright Streets between Indian and Ellsworth, Indian Street, Isabella Street, Lyon Road, Main Street, Patrick Road from Indian to Waldo, Rodd Street, and Saginaw Road.
Residents whom live on a street that is currently under construction should also rake their leaves onto their outlawns until construction is complete.
Once collection begins, residents will be able to track the crews’ progress by viewing a daily updated collection map at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/leafupdate. Residents may also find updates by calling the Leaf Collection Hotline at 989-837-3405 or by following the City’s social media channels @CityofMidlandMI on Facebook and Twitter.
