[ARCHIVED] Main Street Reopens, Accessible Parking Updated

October 1, 2020 – Main Street has reopened to motorized vehicle traffic and parking from Ashman Street to Rodd Street in Downtown Midland following a temporary closure this summer to provide expanded, socially-distanced shopping and dining space for retailers and restaurants.

Most outdoor patios and dining spaces along Main Street may remain open until October 31 or at each individual business’s discretion.

A public survey will be launched in the coming weeks to collect final feedback on the Main Street pedestrian plazas from residents and visitors. Survey results will be used to gauge public feedback Interested individuals can sign up to receive email notifications of new survey opportunities at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/ecityhall

“While the COVID pandemic has impacted us all in many ways, it also challenged downtowns across the State and nation to ‘do downtown differently’”, said Community Affairs Director Selina Tisdale. “As we look forward to 2021 and the future of our community, Downtown Midland will use what we’ve learned during this pandemic and the constructive input of our residents, visitors, and businesses to explore how we, too,  can do downtown differently to make it a safe and enjoyable place for all to enjoy.”

In addition, the City of Midland has updated the on-street accessible parking spaces located along a three-block section of Main Street to provide easier parking and navigation for accessible vehicles and visitors. Accessible parking spots in the blocks of Main from Gordon to Ashman, Ashman to McDonald, and McDonald to Rodd have been relocated to the ends of each block opposite the stop signs to eliminate barriers for ramps, parking, and loading/unloading.
