[ARCHIVED] Main Street Goes Car-Free in June, July

June 19, 2020 – Main Street will be closed to all vehicle traffic and parking at Ashman, McDonald, and Rodd streets now through July 31 to expand space for retailers and restaurants in Downtown Midland in accordance with current social distancing guidelines.

The intersections of Main and Ashman, McDonald, and Rodd will remain open to through traffic throughout the closure.

During the street closure, the following spaces have been temporarily designed as handicapped parking spaces for sole use by vehicles with a State of Michigan approved disability license plate or parking placard:

  • Main Street – The second parking space north of Ashman Street on the westerly side of the street
  • Ashman Street – The first parking space east of Main Street on the northerly side of the street
  • McDonald Street – The first and third parking spaces east of Main Street on the northerly side of the street

In accordance with ongoing COVID-19 regulations, the Midland Downtown Development Authority has launched the Be S.A.F.E. (Safe, Active, Friendly, Excited) Downtown Midland campaign to encourage visitors to practice social distancing and proper hygiene guidelines, wear a facial covering, have patience with downtown businesses, and find new ways to explore all of Downtown’s many amenities.
