On Thursday, September 18, Downtown Midland auctioned off the 11 sculptures enjoyed by downtown visitors all summer long, providing more than $6,000 to help advance the 2015 Summer Sculpture Series.
“We are so grateful for all the artists, sponsors and especially the bidders that provide such an energetic ending to a fantastic sculpture series summer,” said City of Midland Community Affairs Director Selina Tisdale. “The level of creative sculpture design was reflected in the vigorous bidding that delighted the audience all evening long,” she said adding that Marty Wegner of Wegner Auctioneers makes the event entertaining and profitable.
Taking home the Judge’s Choice award and a$1,000.00 prize was “Among the Weeds” the playful fish dancing among the water plants designed by artist Curt Gledhill while the giant mosquito, “Great Lakes Swamp Hawk”, by artist Carson Hess received the People’s Choice award and a generous Downtown Midland gift basket.
“We can’t thank enough our sponsors who made this year’s sculpture series possible,” Tisdale said. The twelve local businesses supporting the event with financial and in-kind contributions were: Nancy & Bill Barker Family, Chemical Bank, Comerica Bank, Dow Gardens, Gerace Construction, Great Lakes Loons, The H Hotel, MEGlobal, Northtown Collision, Park Place Homes and Marketing Flexibility, Pizza Sam’s and Wegner Auctioneers.
Proceeds from the auction will help support the 2015 Downtown Midland Summer Sculpture Series.
