July 8, 2019 – The City of Midland is pleased to announce that Erica Armstrong has been hired as the new City Clerk effective July 10. The announcement comes following a departmental restructuring that will make the City Clerk’s Office a standalone department as well as streamline the City’s communications efforts.

Armstrong comes to the City of Midland from the City of Linden, Michigan, where she has previously served as City Clerk since February 2015. Prior to Linden, she served as a records management consultant and the Assistant Elections Administrator for Atlas Township in Goodrich, Michigan, and also worked as a contract attorney for several organizations. Armstrong holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Loyola University of Chicago and a juris doctor from the Michigan State University College of Law and is a member of the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks and the Michigan Bar Association.

As part of this restructuring, Midland Community Television (MCTV) will join the City’s Communications Department. Director of Community Affairs Selina Tisdale, who previously also served as City Clerk, will now oversee MCTV in addition to current Communications staff. Armstrong will oversee the City Clerk’s Office in her new role.

“We’re excited to have a dedicated public servant like Erica joining the City Clerk’s Office,” said City Manager Brad Kaye. “In addition to her hiring, we’re also eager to see this departmental restructuring improve our operational processes as well as the services and service levels delivered to Midland residents.”
