[ARCHIVED] City Planning Director Receives 1st State Bank RUBY Award

February 28, 2019 – The City of Midland is pleased to announce that Director of Planning and Community Development Grant Murschel has been honored with the 2018 1st State Bank RUBY (Recognizing the Upward, Young, and Bright) Award.

Murschel received the award, which is given annually to area professionals under the age of 40 who have made their mark in their professions and are having an impact throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region, during a celebration dinner at Apple Mountain in Freeland on February 26.

“Simply put, Grant is the living embodiment of the RUBY Award,” said Midland City Manager Brad Kaye. “Through his work in the Planning department, his extensive involvement in community organizations, and his dedicated promotion of the Midland community, he has proven to be a true leader who is integral to the future of the Great Lakes Bay region. We’re very proud of his receiving this recognition.”

Murschel joined the City of Midland in 2013 as a community development planner and was promoted to Director of Planning and Community Development in October 2017. He is involved in a variety of community organizations, including the Midland Business Alliance Young Professionals (MYPros), for which he serves as Steering Committee Chair; Midland County Continuum of Care; Midland County Habitat for Humanity Neighborhood Revitalization; Midland Area Community Foundation; and Mid-Century Modern Midland. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from American Public University and a bachelor’s degree in geographic information systems and planning from Montana State University-Bozeman.
