[ARCHIVED] Midland Police Department Hosts 'Coffee with a Cop' Feb. 27

On Wednesday February 27th, 2019, the Midland Police Department and members of the community will come together once again in a friendly, informal environment to discuss community issues, build relationships and enjoy a good cup of coffee. All community members are invited to attend.

The hours of the event will be from 8:00 am to 10:00 am on Wednesday, February 27th, 2019 at Biggby Coffee located at 961 S. Saginaw Rd, Midland, MI.

Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the police department’s work in the City of Midland.

The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.

Engaging our community in public safety efforts is a top priority of the Midland Police Department. We share the community’s concerns and make every effort to address them.

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the country, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.

The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time.

Special thanks to the owners Doyle and Julie Langham for opening their business for this event.

Any questions can be directed to Community Relations Sergeant Chris Wenzell at 989-839-4704 or Cwenzell@midland-mi.org.
