[ARCHIVED] Downtown Midland Seeking Artists for 2019 Summer Sculpture Series

February 8, 2019 – After a two-year hiatus, the Downtown Midland Sculpture Series is back – and it’s teeing off in a big way! Artists and creative minds are invited to submit their most innovative ideas for “Tee’d Up Downtown”, the 16th annual Summer Sculpture Series presented by Downtown Midland and the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational (GLBI).

Eighteen artists will be selected to receive a 42-inch by 21-inch pre-form sculpture of a golf ball on a tee that they can paint, weld, upcycle, or transform in any way possible.  The completed sculptures will be displayed in downtown Midland from early June through September in conjunction with the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational activities in July.

Tee’d Up Downtown is open to anyone – professional or amateur artist – who has a creative idea and ability to make an amazing piece of art. There is no cost to participate and selected artists will receive reimbursement of up to $100 for qualifying materials purchases for their sculptures. Artist applications are available online at www.downtownmidland.com and must be received by Thursday, March 7 at 4 p.m. to be considered.

All sculptures in the 2019 Sculpture Series will be available for purchase by the general public at an end-of-the-season sculpture auction. Prizes for People’s Choice and Judges’ Choice sculptures will also be awarded at the auction – including a grand prize of $2,500 for the best overall sculpture! All proceeds from the 2019 sculpture auction will be used to fund future Sculptures Series.

For more information on the Tee’d Up Downtown and the 2019 Sculpture Series or to apply as an artist, visit www.downtownmidland.com or contact the Downtown Development Authority at 989-837-3330. Businesses interested in sponsorship opportunities with the 2019 Sculpture Series should contact the DDA at 989-837-3313 or ltodd@midland-mi.org.
