[ARCHIVED] Remove all Midland Cemetery Decorations by October 1

September 28, 2018 – In preparation for the fall and winter months, families maintaining plots at the Midland Cemetery should remove annual flowers, artificial decorations and their receptacles from cemetery plots by October 1.

Beginning October 2, cemetery personnel start their fall cleanup of the cemetery.  Items remaining on plots will be collected and discarded.

Annual flowers, artificial decorations and their receptacles may remain in the cemetery from May 1 to October 1. To help with the leaf cleanup operation in the fall, only suspended plants and elevated arrangements are allowed from October 2 through Thanksgiving. Winter decorations such as evergreen blankets or wreaths may be applied beginning the week of Thanksgiving; these may remain on grave sites through April 1.

In an effort to maintain the appearance of the Midland Cemetery, the Midland City Council has adopted cemetery rules that outline specific rules and regulations regarding maintenance, allowable items, and time frames for placing and removing certain objects within the cemetery.  A complete copy of these rules is available, upon request, at the Cemetery Office on the grounds of the cemetery, or at the City Clerk’s Office, located at Midland City Hall. The rules are also posted on the City’s website, at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov.

A violation of cemetery rules is a civil infraction, which can result in a $50 fine for the first offense, $250 for the second offense, or $500 for the third and any subsequent violations.

For questions or further information, contact the Midland Parks and Recreation Department at 989-837-6930.
