[ARCHIVED] Murschel Promoted to City Planning Director

October 5, 2017 – The City of Midland is pleased to announce that Grant Murschel has been promoted to Director of Planning and Community Development effective Monday, October 9, 2017.

Grant was hired as the City’s Community Development Planner in July 2013, where he has been involved in numerous City initiatives, including the Community Development Block Grant program, the 4D Restoration and Pedestrian Wayfinding Signage projects, and the Bicycle Friendly Community recertification process. He also serves as the staff liaison to the City’s Planning Commission, Housing Commission, and Zoning Board of Appeals. Prior to his role with the City, Grant worked in both Kochville Township and Tittabawassee Township governments in Saginaw County.

Grant is also involved in a variety of organizations in the Midland community, including the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals (MYPros), Midland County Continuum of Care, Momentum Midland Action Committee, Midland County Habitat for Humanity, Midland Area Community Foundation, and Mid-Century Modern Midland. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from American Public University, a bachelor’s degree in geographic information systems and planning from Montana State University-Bozeman, and is a 2008 graduate of Freeland High School.

“Grant’s efforts as our Community Development Planner have driven real progress in Midland,” said City Manager Brad Kaye. ”His dedication to the Midland community and his vision for our city make him an outstanding asset to us and a natural choice for this role. We look forward to seeing him put that vision into action.”

The announcement comes following the hiring of former director Kaye as City Manager in August.
