[ARCHIVED] Fall Free Yard Waste Collection Begins Oct. 2

September 21, 2017  The City of Midland will offer Fall Free yard waste collection beginning October 2 through the remainder of the 2017 yard waste collection season. During this free period, 40-cent per bag stickers and annual yard waste bin stickers are not required. In addition, residents can rake leaves to the street until final curbside collection has been completed in their area.

Raking leaves to the street sooner will not start bulk curbside collection earlier.  Curbside collection of leaves will begin after significant leaf fall has occurred city-wide, which is typically late October.

Weekly yard waste is collected in kraft paper compost bags or 95-gallon yard waste bins on your regular refuse collection day. Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, garden waste, and small twigs and branches.

For the safety of our crews, avoid putting pumpkins, plants and brush such as sticks in your leaf piles, as they can cause injury, damage equipment, and slow collection. When the crews are working in your neighborhood, refrain from parking in the street.

Stay tuned to MGTV Charter Cable 188, AT&T U-Verse Channel 99, the City’s website (www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/leafupdate), the leaf collection hotline (989-837-3405), and local media for updates on the beginning of the fall leaf collection program.

New in 2017, the City of Midland will be posting a color-coded map on the Leaf Update website that will detail the areas where leaf collection has been done, where leaf collection will be tomorrow, and what areas should prepare for collection.
