Exam Proctoring Service
The Grace A. Dow Memorial Library provides proctoring for distance learning students.
The service is limited to residents who are eligible for a library card. You can check if you are able to get a card at the Library Card page.
There is no charge for the service and we don’t have a limit to how many students we will proctor.
We will work with any schools as long as they understand that test are taken in the library within view of the reference desk and not an individual private room. And we are unable to scan a printed exam to upload to your school’s webpage. We can fax or email a scan directly to the teacher or distance learning office.
Who can administer your exams depends on your school policies, some schools insist that only I can administer the test and we will need to arrange a time when I am working or find a substitute proctor. In many cases, any of the librarians staffing the desk can proctor for you and you are welcome to come anytime the library is open. Our regular hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Sunday, 1 - 5 p.m. during the K-12 school year.
Have your distance learning office send the exams to:
Ann Jarvis - Reference Librarian
Grace A. Dow Memorial Library
1710 W St Andrews
Midland MI 48640
When you are ready take the test, contact me (either call or email) to verify that the materials have arrived. I will arrange to have the test waiting for you at the reference desk.
For completing online exams, there are a couple of options:
- The library has computers near the Reference Desk. They require a library card number to access. Though usually limited to 75 minutes, reference desk staff can extend the time to the length of your exam.
- You can check out a laptop for use while in the library. The laptops provide the first hour for free and each additional hour or partial hour for $2.50.
- Some schools allow you to use your own laptop. If this is the case you are welcome to bring in your own equipment.
Please note that both PCs and laptops are borrowed on a first come first served basis. We don’t have a system for reserving the computers ahead of time.
Please contact Ann Jarvis via email or at 989-837-3435 if you have any other questions.
