Yard Waste Stickers

Spring free yard waste collection begins the first Monday in April (April 1, 2019) through the month of April 2019 yard waste stickers are not required for compost bags and City blue yard waste bins.  Beginning the first Monday in May (May 6, 2019), yard waste stickers will be required on all compost bags and City blue yard waste bins.

Compost bag users pay a 40-cent per bag collection fee. Compost paper bags and collection fee stickers for paper compost bags are available from local stores at their customer service counter or at the Municipal Service Center.  The cost of a single sheet of 20 yard waste collection stickers is $8.

Yard waste bin users must pay a $40 annual collection fee, which covers the cost of 1 yard waste bin for the collection season. If more bins are needed at the same address, the cost of each additional bin is $70 and an additional annual collection fee of $17 for each additional bin. Annual collection stickers may be purchased in City Hall at the Treasurer's Office or at the Municipal Service Center at 4811 N. Saginaw Rd.

Fall free yard waste collection begins the first Monday in October (October 7, 2019) and extends through the end of the yard waste collection season.  No stickers are required on compost bags or City blue yard waste bins. Yard waste collection typically concludes by the end of November depending on weather conditions.

Midland's Yard Waste Collection Program

Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, small twigs, straw, plants, and garden waste.  Yard waste is collected for composting on the same day as your weekly household refuse, Monday-Friday, from the first Monday in April (April 1, 2019) to November, depending on weather conditions. All compost bags and City blue yard waste bins will require stickers starting the first Monday in May (May 6, 2019). Place yard waste and refuse side- by- side at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on your collection day and no sooner than 6 p.m. on the day before collection. Yard waste is NOT collected from the street in the spring. Free Collection Periods

SPRING FREE - Kraft paper bags and City blue yard waste bins will not require stickers from the first Monday in April (April 1, 2019) until the first Monday in May (May 6, 2019).

FALL FREE - Kraft paper bags and City blue yard waste bins will not require stickers from the first Monday in October (October 7, 2019) through the remainder of the yard waste collection season.

How is Yard Waste Collected

Yard waste is collected in two ways: in paper compost bags and/or in blue City of Midland yard waste bins.

Kraft Paper Compost Bags

Kraft paper compost bags may be set at the curb on your weekly refuse day. 30-gallon paper compost bags may be purchased directly from local retailers that carry lawn and garden accessories. Bags have a 50 lb. weight limit. Orange yard waste stickers are required for each kraft paper compost bag of yard waste set out to be collected. The orange yard waste stickers cost $.40 cents per bag.

Yard Waste Bin

95-gallon, wheeled blue yard waste bins may be purchased from the City for $70 each. Yard waste bin users must pay a $40 annual collection fee, which covers the cost of 1 yard waste bin for the collection season. If more bins are needed at the same address, the cost of each additional bin is $70 and an additional annual collection fee of $17 for each additional bin. There is a 200-pound weight limit on yard waste bins.

Ordering Your Yard Waste Bin

To order one or more yard waste bins from the City, fill out the Refuse and Yard Waste Bin Order Form (found under DPS Documents), print it out, then deliver or mail it along with payment to the City Treasurer's office at City Hall or the Municipal Service Center. Yard waste bins may also be purchased in person at the Municipal Service Center at 4811 N. Saginaw Rd.

If including a check or money order with the bin order form, make it payable to "City of Midland" mail to the City Treasurer's Office, P.O. Box 1647, Midland, MI 48641-1647. 

Purchases made in person may be paid with cash, check, or a VISA / MasterCard or debit card with the VISA or MasterCard logo on them. Free delivery of prepaid bins within the City of Midland are made within three business days. Call the Department of Public Services with any questions.

Renewing Your Yard Waste Bin Annual Sticker

If you wish to pay the annual fee(s) for your yard waste bin(s) for this calendar year, fill out the Yard Waste Bin Collection Renewal Form (found under DPS Documents on the right) enclose check and make it payable to "City of Midland" mail to the City Treasurer's Office, P.O. Box 1647, Midland, MI 48641-1647.

Payment may also be made in person at City Hall at the Treasurer's Office or the Municipal Service Center at 4811 N. Saginaw Rd. Payment may be paid with cash, check, or a VISA / MasterCard or debit card with the VISA or MasterCard logo on them.
