S.W.A.T. Team

Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) teams are small teams of police officers who are highly trained to respond to threats that are beyond the realm of traditional police officer training and expectation. The Midland S.W.A.T. team provides highly trained personnel for circumstances when precision marksmanship and skills are required to effectively handle hostile and violent criminal activities, entries into buildings that are occupied by armed individuals, and hostage situations.

Police Officers in tactical gear

The Midland S.W.A.T. team consists of 10 S.W.A.T. officers and two negotiation officers. Of those team members, 8 are from the City of Midland Police Department and 3 are from the Midland County Sheriff's Office.

Team members undergo a regular training regimen to maintain a high level of proficiency in highly technical firearms tactics, modern S.W.A.T. tactics and general fitness. The Midland S.W.A.T. team annually attends a week-long training event at the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center in Alpena, Michigan, as well as monthly training sessions involving specialized critical incident scenarios.
