2022 Leaf Collection News

Curbside leaf collection has ended for 2022. Any remaining leaves can be taken to the landfill or saved until the 2023 yard waste collection program begins in April. 

The Landfill will accept yard waste year round. Midland County residents may dispose of up to three cubic yards of refuse, demolition debris, scrap metal, or yard waste once per month.  The final Saturday that the Landfill is open is November 26, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. to noon..

Please read the following for information about how the collection process works.

Fall leaf collection from the street will be announced when there is a significant leaf fall throughout the City. A collection schedule using the Heavy Item and Brush Collection areas A, B, C, and D is used to determine the collection areas for the leaf crews. Leaf collection will begin in area B then proceed to areas C, D, and A. Residents can rake leaves to the street in front of their home until final curbside collection has been completed for the season in their area. Raking leaves to the street sooner will not start bulk curbside collection earlier.

Residents can track the progress of leaf collection crews via the updates below, calling the Leaf Collection hotline at 989-837-3405, or watching the MGTV-188 message board (AT&T U-Verse subscribers can watch the MCTV Network through Channel 99).

FALL FREE begins the first Monday in October (October 2, 2023) through the remainder of the yard waste collection season. During this free period, 40-cent per bag stickers and the annual yard waste bin stickers are not required. Crews will begin collection from the street when there has been a significant leaf fall throughout the City. Raking leaves to the street will not start the bulk curbside collection any earlier. Yard waste bags and bins are collected on your weekly refuse day.

12/9/22 Yard waste collection has ended.  NO leaves are allowed in the street.  Leaves can be taken to the landfill as part of residents 3 cubic yards of general refuse/brush or yard waste at no charge.  The landfill hours are Monday - Friday 8 am to 4 pm.  Collection of yard waste in blue yard waste bins or compost bags will resume on Monday, April 3, 2023 on your weekly refuse day.
12/6/22 AREA B - Complete no leaves allowed in street

Curbside leaf collection is complete in the City for the 2022 season.  NO leaves are allowed in the street.
Friday, December 9, is the final day for yard waste collection in the blue yard bins and in paper compost bags.  
Residents with remaining yard waste, can take it to the Landfill.

On Tuesday, December 6, crews will work final curbside collection in AREA A working Jefferson to Saginaw from the Circle to Patrick, Abbot to Waldo, the Jay/Clay area and the Bay City Rd corridor.
AREA B, AREA C, AREA D have received final collection and no leaves are allowed in the street.
Friday December 9, is the LAST day for yard waste collection in yard bin and in paper compost bags.

On Saturday, December 3, crews will complete AREA D, working east of Orchard towards Jefferson and Ashman- them out Isabella (M-20).  The Arbor/Linden area is complete. Crews expect to also complete final collection in AREA A on Saturday, December 3.
No leaves are allowed in the street after final collection.  Friday, December 9, will be the LAST day for yard waste collection in blue yard bins and in paper compost bags.
Due to freezing temperatures, yard bin contents may freeze, not allowing the contents to completely empty.  Storing bin the the garage until your collection day will help prevent this problem.

On Friday, December 2, crews will collect Nurmi Dr and work from Sturgeon Creek Parkway towards Stark Rd.  Crews will also begin final collection in AREA D.
Once final collection is received, no leaves are allowed in the street.  Yard waste will be collected on your weekly refuse day until Friday, December 9th.
Leaf crews are moving fast!  All residents are encourage to rake leaves into the street.
Due to freezing temperatures, yard bin contents may freeze, not allowing the contents to completely empty.  Storing bins in the garage until your collection day will help prevent this problem.

On Thursday, December 1, crews will be working in AREA C for final collection from Jefferson towards Stark and the area north of US-10.
Final collection crews are moving fast!  All residents are encouraged to rake leaves into the street.
December 9th is the FINAL day for yard waste collection from yard waste bins and paper compost bags.

On Wednesday, November 30th, crews will work final curbside collection in AREA B on the courts off E Sugnet Rd between Washington and Jefferson.  Crews will then collect in the Butterfield area and work towards Jefferson between E Wheeler and E Wackerly.
This final round will go fast, so all residents are encouraged to rake their leaves into the street at this time.
December 9th is the FINAL day for yard waste collection for the 2022 season!

On Tuesday, November 29th, FINAL collection will continue in AREA B working in the Springbrook/Burlington/Plymouth area and from Swede towards Jefferson between E Ashman and E Wheeler.  If time permits, crews will collect in the Butterfield area between E Wheeler and E Wackerly.
This FINAL round of collection will go fast.  All residents are encouraged to rake their leaves into the street at this time.

On Saturday, November 19th, crews will finish 1st round collection in AREA A.  They will work in the Springfield/Gettysburg/Todd/Illinois area, Ridgewood Dr. and the Bay City Rd corridor.
Due to freezing temperatures, yard bin contents may freeze, not allowing to completely empty.  Storing bins in the garage until your collection day will help prevent this problem.
LAST day for yard bins and paper compost bags is Friday, December 9th.

On Friday, November 18th crews will continue in Area A finishing up the Springfield/Illinois area and the Bay City road corridor. Crews will also start outlawn leaf collection on main roads.

Friday, December 9th will be the LAST day for yard waste collection in the blue yard bins and in the paper compost bags

Final round of curbside leaf collection will start on Monday, November 28th in AREA B.

11/17/22 Due to freezing temperatures, yard bin contents may freeze, not allowing for contents to completely empty.  Keeping the bins in the garage until collection day will help prevent this problem.

On Thursday, November 17, crews will collect the Wallbridge/Brambleridge area in the morning.  Crews will then collect in AREA A from east of Abbott between E Ashman and Eastlawn, the Jay/Clay area, and the Bay City Rd corridor.
FINAL collection will begin on Monday, November 28th in AREA B.
Friday, December 9th, is the FINAL collection for yard waste in the blue yard bin and in the paper compost bags.

Area D 1st round collection is now complete. On Tuesday, November 15 crews will continue collecting the 1st round of leaves in AREA A working toward Swede from Carpenter between Ashman and Patrick.

On Friday, November 11, crews will collect the 1st round in AREA D starting in the Dublin Rd area and W Sugnet & Orchard area between N Saginaw/W Main/Eastman.

On Wednesday, November 10th, crews will collect in AREA C starting from Perrine Rd working west and will also collect the area north of US - 10.  The area of Stony Creek, Huntington Dr, Bluebird and Artcrest is complete for the 1st round.  Residents in AREA D should prepare for collection.  Leaf crews are planning on working Saturday and Sunday.

Avoid placing pumpkins, brush, or sticks in leaf piles. This creates a hazard for crews and equipment.

On Thursday, November 3rd, crews will collect from the west side of Washington working towards Jefferson between E Ashman and E Wheeler.  Crews will work from the Washington/Dartmouth/Boston area and from Washington/Concord area.  The courts off E Meadowbrook are completed.  Crews will also collect the Devonshire/Cambridge area.
If time permits, crews will begin collection in the Butterfield/Foster area between E Wheeler and E Wackerly.

Crews have completed the first round in the Fuller/Mark Twain area and from Waldo to Lambros/Greenway and Mt Vernon to Lund.
Crews will be working from Greenway to Swede, Chestnut Hill to McKeith Rd, and Lund to Swede.  If time permits, crews will start at Swede Ave and work towards Washington between E Ashman and E Wheeler.
10/24/22 Curbside fall leaf collection begins MONDAY, OCTOBER 31ST IN AREA B.  Crews will then proceed to Areas C, D, and A.  Remember to leave one foot of gutter space between leaf pile and the curb to allow a path for water to properly drain from the street.
Residents who live on a street that is currently under construction should rake their leaves onto their outlawns until construction is complete.
10/17/22 Residents may rake leaves out into the streets.  Remember to leave one foot of gutter space to allow water to drain to the catch basins.  There is NO start date for collection from the street at this time.  Once a significant amount of leaves have fallen, a collection start date will be announced.
Yard waste stickers are not required on blue City of Midland yard waste bins and on paper compost bags throughout the remainder of the collection season.
