2020 Leaf Collection News

FINAL Curbside leaf collection will begin Monday, November 30 in AREA B.  Crews will then proceed to AREAS C, D, and A.  We expect this round to go very fast as many leaves were collected during the first round.  All residents should prepare leaves for FINAL collection.  Once an AREA has received FINAL collection, NO leaves are allowed in the street.

Leaves will continued to be collected during your weekly refuse day in yard waste bins or paper compost bags until the end of the yard waste collection season.  The end of collection season is weather dependent and will be announced at a later date.

The Landfill will accept yard waste year round. Midland County residents may dispose of up to three cubic yards of refuse, demolition debris, scrap metal, or yard waste once per month.  The final Saturday that the Landfill is open is November 28, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. to noon..

Please read the following for information about how the collection process works.

Fall leaf collection from the street will be announced when there is a significant leaf fall throughout the City. A collection schedule using the Heavy Item and Brush Collection areas A, B, C, and D is used to determine the collection areas for the leaf crews. Leaf collection will begin in area B then proceed to areas C, D, and A. Residents can rake leaves to the street in front of their home until final curbside collection has been completed for the season in their area. Raking leaves to the street sooner will not start bulk curbside collection earlier.

Residents can track the progress of leaf collection crews via the updates below, calling the Leaf Collection hotline at 989-837-3405, or watching the MGTV-188 message board (AT&T U-Verse subscribers can watch the MCTV Network through Channel 99).

FALL FREE begins the first Monday in October (October 5, 2020) through the remainder of the yard waste collection season. During this free period, 40-cent per bag stickers and the annual yard waste bin stickers are not required. Crews will begin collection from the street when there has been a significant leaf fall throughout the City. Raking leaves to the street will not start the bulk curbside collection any earlier. Yard waste bags and bins are collected on your weekly refuse day.

Curbside Collection

11/24/20 AREA B : 1st round - Collection complete
AREA C : 1st round – Collection complete
AREA D: 1st round – Collection complete
AREA A: 1st round – Collection Complete

On Tuesday November 24th, crews completed the first round of collection city wide.

Final round of curbside fall leaf collection will begin on Monday, November 30.

Collection crews will begin in Area B and then proceed through areas C, D, and A. Once each area has completed the final round of collection, street sweepers will come through to clean up the streets, weather permitting. DPS anticipates that the final round of collection will go quickly due to the volume of leaves collected during the first round, so residents in all areas should rake leaves to the street as soon as possible for final collection. Residents are reminded that both leaf collection and street sweeping operations are highly weather-dependent.

Residents may continue to rake leaves to the street before their area has received final collection. Residents with leaves remaining after final collection must place them into Kraft paper yard waste bags or blue City yard waste bins for collection on their scheduled refuse collection day. Collection stickers for yard waste bags and yard waste bins are not required through the end of the yard waste collection season. Due to possible freezing temperatures, yard waste in bins may freeze, hampering their removal by collection crews. To help resolve this problem, please keep bins in the garage until collection day.

Remember to leave at least one foot of clear gutter space between leaf piles and the curb to allow water to drain to the catch basin. Avoid placing pumpkins, brush, or sticks in leaf piles. This creates a safety hazard for crews and equipment.

Residents should avoid parking cars on streets where crews are working.
