Water Flushing Program
City Resumes Water Flushing Activities
September 13, 2019 – On Monday, September 16, City of Midland Water Distribution crews resumed its annual water main flushing program that began in the spring. Crews will begin in Section 5 on the northwest side of the City, then continue to remaining areas on the west City limits. Fire hydrants in these areas will be systematically opened to clean and refresh the drinking water distribution system.
Once all sections within the City limits are complete, crews will begin flushing hydrants in the townships that are served by City Water Distribution: Homer, Larkin, Midland, and Mills.
Water main flushing sometimes results in discolored water. While not harmful, tap water may appear orange in color for 5 to 15 minutes. Residents should avoid doing laundry while their water is discolored.
The City’s flushing program helps ensure a high level of water quality by preventing corrosion and maintaining a proper disinfection residual.
Thank you for your patience during the flushing process. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the City of Midland Water Distribution office at 989-837-6950 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
