Public Servants to Lend a Hand for Neighborhood Revitalization

August 4, 2017 – Members of several City departments will lend a hand to area residents when they participate in Midland County Habitat for Humanity’s Neighborhood Revitalization program August 7 through 11.

On Tuesday, August 8, members of the Midland Police Department, United States Coast Guard, Michigan State Police, Midland County Sheriff’s Office, and other public safety organizations will participate in “Service Day” – a day dedicated to building bridges between public safety personnel and members of the revitalized neighborhood. This day is now celebrated in honor of MPD Sgt. Rob Booth, who led the department’s participation in the Neighborhood Revitalization initiative until his death in 2015.

Other members of City government, including MPD, will participate in the program on other days throughout the week.

Since 2010, the annual Neighborhood Revitalization project has connected in-need residents with the manpower to make necessary home repairs and updates. This year, approximately 800 volunteers are expected to help refurbish 15 homes in the neighborhoods surrounding Midland High School. The initiative helps residents with a variety of outdoor projects, including painting, roof repair and replacement, ramp installation and upkeep, general maintenance, and more.

Residents who are interested in volunteering with Midland County Habitat for Humanity can sign up online at www.midlandhabitat.org.
