MPD to Host 2nd 'Cone with a Cop' on August 3

July 24, 2017 - On Thursday, August 3rd, starting at 4:00 PM, officers from the Midland Police Department and community members will come together for a fun filled event called “Cone with a Cop”. This event is the second Cone with a Cop event of the summer. This event is setup to help build relationships between our officers and our community members. All community members are invited to attend. The event will take place from 4-7 PM at The Cottage Creamery, 5317 N. Saginaw Rd, in Midland, MI.

The Coffee with a Cop events we have done in the past have provided a great opportunity for community members to meet with Officers, ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in the City of Midland. Since its summer, we’re fortunate to be able to partner with The Cottage Creamery.

This community event will be geared towards younger children getting the opportunity to meet with our officers from our department. We will have a few patrol cars setup in the parking lot for children to look at and will be handing out safety information to parents. We hope to meet some families that couldn’t make it to our last Cone with a Cop event. We plan on having at least one more Cone with a Cop event before the summer is over and will continue with the Coffee with a Cop events starting in September.

The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies or emotional situations. We recognize that those situations are not always the best time for relaxed discussion and building relationships in the community. We encourage residents to bring their children to stop by, ask questions, bring concerns and simply get to know our officers.

Coffee with a Cop / Cone with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the country, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.

Any questions can be directed to Community Relations Sergeant Chris Wenzell at 989-839-4704 or Cwenzell@midland-mi.org.
